Historical Background of Nueva Vizcaya
The Province of Nueva Vizcaya, which was named after the people living in the coast of Mar de Vizcaine in Spain, was a part of the vast “Territorio de Missionares” of the Spanish-controlled government of Cagayan. The territory covered the eastern half of Northern Luzon, from Nueva Ecija to Aparri, including the Batanes Islands.
On May 24, 1839, Governor-General Luis Lardizabal, upon the advice of the Alcalde Mayor of Cagayan, issued an order making Nueva Vizcaya a separate politico-military province. The King of Spain through a royal decree approved the order on April 10, 1841. Governor Pedro Menchaca was the first appointed politico-military governor of the new province. However, the Spanish sovereignty ceased upon the arrival of the Philippine revolutionary forces in Bayombong in August 1898.

Tourism of Nueva Vizcaya
The province of Nueva Vizcaya prides her nature, culture-based tourism attractions, historical and cultural events like the yearly Grand Ammungan Festival held every May. This wonderful event is a gathering of different ethnic tribes and lowland inhabitants of the province.
Places frequently visited by local tourists are the Lower Magat Eco-Tourism Park (LMETP) at barangay San Luis in Diadi town, the Imugan Falls at barangay Imugan and the Balete Pass or Dalton Pass at barangay Tactac in Sta. Fe town, the world-class multi-chambered Capisaan Cave System at barangay Malabing in Kasibu town and the Nueva Vizcaya People’s Museum and Library in Bayombong town adjacent to the Saint Dominic Cathedral. Another newly opened tourist site visited by the locals is the Paragliding at barangay Tiblac in Ambaguio town.

Catholic devotees believed that through the intercession of St. Clare all their prayers will be granted especially to those soon to be wed couple(s) where they head to the nearest St. Clare convent to offer eggs wrapped in colorful cellophane as they fervently pray for good weather for their wedding day.
Not just those soon to be wed couple(s) but including, for example, residents who pray for good weather for their town fiesta. As Aritao Tourism mentioned every time they celebrate their town fiesta their then-mayor offering eggs so that it will not rain during their celebration because their town fiesta celebration is held during the rainy season.

How to get to Nueva Vizcaya?
Air-conditioned buses (Five Star Bus, G.V. Florida Transport, Victory Liner, Ohayami Trans, Coda Lines, etc.) bound for Ifugao and Cagayan Valley pass by the province. For independent motorists, take the North Luzon Expressway and exit at Sta. Rita. Nueva Vizcaya is accessible through the Cagayan Valley Road (Pan-Philippine Highway/Daang Maharlika) & is about 268 km north of Metro Manila (approximately 6-7 hours of travel by land).

Alternative Route
From NLEX, exit at SCTEX till you come to TPLEX. Exit at Victoria or Pura then head for San Jose City and Carranglan, Nueva Ecija until one reaches Sta. Fe, Nueva Vizcaya. Travel from Sta. Fe to the capital town of Bayombong is one hour only.
Via Air
Cauayan City Airport in Isabela is the nearest commercial airport to Nueva Vizcaya and is three hours by land. From the airport, one is highly recommended to hire services of a tourist van/ DOT accredited transport either the Nueva Vizcaya Transport Service Cooperative at 0906–268–0603 or the First Novo Vizcayano Travellers Cooperative at 0927–472–7417.
