Ever had one of those days where your blog just won't cooperate? I had one yesterday. I noticed my homepage was stuck showing only 5 posts, even though I’d set it to 6. I tried bumping the settings to 8, 10, and even 12, but it wouldn't budge.
After some digging, I finally found the answer. According to DarkUFO, if your posts are too long, Blogger tries to load the entire thing on the homepage at once. This causes a "timeout," and the platform just gives up on displaying the rest. It made perfect sense—my latest post was a long one, and it was always the last one on the list that went missing.
It’s a bit disappointing that this bug still exists after all these years, but luckily, there’s a simple fix. By using a "Jump Break" or "Read More" tag, you can force Blogger to only load the intro and image. This keeps the homepage light and stops those annoying timeouts.
1. Adding a page break in your long post(s). See below screenshot:
2. Adding a "more" code at the beginning of your long post(s). Edit your very large post(s), go to HTML mode, and add the "more" at the very beginning of your post. See below screenshot:
<!-- more -->
Using the "more" tag at the top of your articles keeps your homepage fast. Instead of loading everything at once, it only pulls the essential parts—like your title and featured image—to keep things snappy.
I’m happy to say my own blog’s layout is finally back to normal, and every post is showing up exactly where it should!
Did any of these tricks work for you? I’d love to hear how your site is running now—drop a comment below and let me know!
