When my partner and I applied for our marriage license and church wedding requirements in Bagabag, Nueva Vizcaya, we quickly realized that there were several documents, seminars, certifications, and schedules we needed to complete first. Some requirements were straightforward, while others took a bit more preparation and coordination between the barangay, Local Civil Registrar, and parish office.

Local Government Requirements
Barangay Baretbet, Bagabag Nueva Vizcaya
- Plant any five fruit-bearing trees and take five photos as proof.
- Community Tax Certificate or Cedula.
- Barangay certification confirming compliance with requirement #1, signed by the Barangay Captain.
Local Civil Registry Office (LCR), Bagabag, Nueva Vizcaya
- Personal appearance is required for all applicants.
- Barangay requirements (#2 and #3 above).
- Certificate of No Marriage Record (CENOMAR) issued by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), formerly issued by the National Statistics Office (NSO). CENOMAR is generally valid for six months, but the LCR may require the most recently issued copy.

Catholic Church Requirements
Saint Jerome Parish Office, Bagabag, Nueva Vizcaya
- Personal appearance is required for all applicants.
- Fill out the marriage application form manually.
- Wedding banns must be submitted to the respective parishes where both applicants were baptized. The banns will be posted on parish bulletin boards and announced during Mass for three consecutive Sundays. Afterward, return the signed documents to the parish office.
- Baptismal Certificate with the annotation “For Marriage Purposes Only.”
- Marriage License
- Certificate of Compliance for completing the required seminars (#5 above) under the Local Civil Registry Office.
- Canonical interview conducted by the parish priest or assistant priest. Be honest during the interview so they can properly guide and advise you as a couple.
- Attend the Pre-Cana seminar (Cana is the town where Jesus attended a wedding; see John 2:1-11). This seminar usually consists of two sessions. The first session discusses the do's and don'ts inside the church during the wedding ceremony. The second session focuses on married life, including the spirituality of marriage, communication, responsibilities within married life, and resolving challenges faithfully as a couple. The sessions are typically facilitated by the catechists.
- Confession, usually done at least one or two days before the wedding ceremony. If you do not memorize the Act of Contrition, the church normally provides a copy during confession.
