Congratulations to all the soon-to-be newlyweds! Getting married is such an exciting chapter, but let’s be honest—the paperwork part can feel a bit daunting. When we applied for our marriage license in Bagabag, Nueva Vizcaya, we learned exactly what it takes to get everything in order. To make things easier for you, I’ve put together this straightforward checklist based on our own experience. I hope this helps you get through the process smoothly so you can focus on the big day!
Local Government Requirements
Barangay Baretbet, Bagabag Nueva Vizcaya
- Plant any five fruit-bearing trees and have five photos as proof.
- Community Tax Certificate or Cedula.
- Barangay certification, certifying you for #1, signed by the barangay captain.
Local Civil Registry Office (LCR), Bagabag, Nueva Vizcaya
- Personal appearance is required for all applicants.
- Barangay requirements (#2, #3)
- Certificate of No Marriage Record (CENOMAR) issued by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) formerly issued by the National Statistics Office (NSO). CENOMAR is valid for six months upon issuance, but the LCR requires you to give the most recent copy.
- Birth Certificate issued by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) formerly issued by the National Statistics Authority (NSO).

Catholic Church Requirements
Saint Jerome Parish Office, Bagabag, Nueva Vizcaya
- Personal appearance is required for all applicants.
- Fill out manually the marriage application form.
- Wedding banns, submit to your respective parishes where you got baptized. They will post on their bulletin boards and announce during the mass for three Sundays. Return, the letters with the sign of the parish priest, to the office after three Sundays.
- Baptismal Certificate with an annotation “For Marriage Purposes Only.”
- Marriage License
- Certificate of Compliance for completing requirement #5 under LCR.
- Canonical interview conducted the parish priest or assistant parish priest. Be honest here so that they can help you how to work things out for your relationship.
- Pre-Cana (Cana is the name of the town in which Jesus attended a wedding; see John 2:1-11). This seminar has two sessions. The first session, about the do's and dont's inside the Church during the ceremony. The second session, about married life (the spirituality of marriage and how to resolve issues faithfully). Sessions are given by the catechists.
- Confession, done at least two days or one day before your wedding day. If you don't memorize the Act of Contrition. Don't worry, they will give you a copy.
