The town of Villaverde has a story rooted in legacy and purpose. It was originally created as a municipality named Ibung on June 12, 1957, through Republic Act No. 1972. Just two years later, on June 21, 1959, the town was renamed Villaverde, in honor of Father Juan Villaverde—a missionary who played a key role in its early development back in 1872.

Villaverde officially started functioning as a town on September 1, 1957. Because of that, residents celebrate their Founding Anniversary every September 1st with pride and joy.

Today, the municipality is made up of 9 barangays, each with its own charm, but all united by a strong sense of community.

Every September 1 to 3, Villaverde comes alive during the Padayaman Festival—a celebration of its founding and cultural pride. The festival includes lively parades, cultural shows, playground demonstrations, and the popular Search for Miss Villaverde.

What makes the Padayaman Festival special is how it shines a spotlight on the rich traditions of the local Ayangan/Ifugao communities, reminding everyone of the town’s deep indigenous roots.

With its warm people, cultural pride, and meaningful traditions, Villaverde is truly a place where history and community spirit go hand in hand.
