SMS fails to send on Android? Try these expert troubleshooting steps from Smart Communications tech support to restore your messaging.
Girl hand texting SMS on cell phone.

I finally fixed the issue with my Android phone not sending texts! For three days, I could receive messages and make calls just fine, but every outgoing SMS failed—even though I had plenty of prepaid load. There wasn't even a network outage in my area.

I called Smart Communications tech support yesterday, and they walked me through a few fixes. I’m using a Huawei Nova 2i, so your settings might look a little different, but here’s what worked for me.

Update SMS Center Number

  1. Open the Messaging App.
  2. Tap on the Ellipsis (the 3 vertical dots with a word more under it).
  3. Select Settings.
  4. Tap on Advanced and then select the SMS center number. Ensure that the SMS center number is correct which is +639180000101. If your SMS center number is not set correctly you will not be able to send text messages.

Set Preferred Network Type

  1. Go to your phone's Settings.
  2. Select Wireless and Networks.
  3. Tap on the Mobile network.
  4. Then select Preferred network type.
  5. Tap on WCDMA/3G/GSM/2G or LTE/WCDMA/GSM auto.

Review SMS Settings

  1. Go to your phone's Settings.
  2. Tap on Apps & notifications.
  3. Tap on Permissions.
  4. Then select on SMS. Ensure SMS permission is enabled for the messaging app.

Reset Network Settings

  1. Go to your phone's Settings.
  2. Select System (system navigation, System update, About phone, Language & input).
  3. Select Reset.
  4. Tap on Network settings reset
  5. Chose Sim to Reset and tap Network settings reset to proceed.

The Airplane Mode Trick

  1. Swipe down from the top of your phone and tap the Airplane mode icon to turn it on, tap again to turn Airplane mode off then turn on mobile data.

That's all!
