PropellerAds, launched in 2011, became widely known as one of the popular pop-under advertising networks for publishers. It mainly operates as a CPM (Cost Per Mille) ad network, which means publishers can earn revenue based on ad impressions instead of relying only on ad clicks.
One reason many beginners try PropellerAds is because there is no strict minimum traffic requirement during registration. The sign-up process is also fast and straightforward. In my case, I received the account activation email almost immediately after registering.
After activating the account, the next step was adding and verifying the website I wanted to monetize. However, this is where I encountered a problem because I could not add or verify my Blogspot website.
The Reason
According to PropellerAds, their verification system does not support certain free-hosted domains.
PropellerAds tags may not work properly on websites using free subdomain platforms such as:
- blogspot.com
- wordpress.com
- wix.com
- weebly.com
- and other free-hosted subdomains
Possible Solution
If you want to monetize a Blogger or WordPress.com website using networks that require domain verification, you may need to purchase a custom domain from a domain registrar.
After connecting your custom domain to Blogger or WordPress, you can usually retry the website verification process using your own domain instead of the free subdomain version.
Once the custom domain is properly configured, you should then be able to add and verify the website inside the advertising platform dashboard.
Final Thoughts
While PropellerAds is easy to join, some beginners may encounter issues when trying to monetize websites hosted on free blogging platforms like Blogspot.com.
Hopefully, this post helps explain why the verification problem happens and saves others time troubleshooting the issue.
