Alfonso Castañeda Nueva Vizcaya Municipal Hall |
In the 1930s, the Bugkalots inhabited Lublub, then a Sitio of Barangay Marikit. In 1950, it became an independent barangay of Pantabangan, Nueva Ecija. The people of Lublub headed by Barangay Captain Alfredo L. Castillo, Sr. requested Assemblyman Carlos M. Padilla to convert the barangay into an independent municipality of Nueva Vizcaya. Hence, Batas Pambansa Blg. 27, authored and sponsored by Assemblyman Padilla, was approved and signed by President Ferdinand E. Marcos on April 20, 1979. The Bill created the new town of Alfonso Castañeda, named after the first Governor of Nueva Vizcaya who belongs to a cultural minority.
Alfonso Castañeda is composed of 6 barangays:
- Abuyo
- Cawayan
- Galintuja
- Lipuga
- Lublub
- Pelaway
Alfonso Castañeda's town fiesta is called Kasipegan Festival, held every 3rd week of April. During the 18th of April, the charming people of the town display their festivity with parades, cultural shows, fun rides for adults and children, talent competition, sports competition, and people’s night. All highlighting the rich and colorful Bugkalot culture.
Their patronal fiesta is Black Nazarene held every January 9.
