Last month, I signed up for Feedspot’s one-month free trial using PayPal. Like many free trials, it automatically converts into a paid subscription once the trial period ends unless you cancel it beforehand. In my case, I would start getting charged ₱799.00 per month after July 29, 2019.
As the renewal date got closer, I logged into my Feedspot account to cancel the subscription. The problem was that I couldn’t find any clear cancellation option inside the dashboard. After searching around for a while and getting nowhere, I decided to check PayPal directly to see if I could stop the automatic payment from there instead.
Thankfully, I found a workaround that successfully canceled the recurring payment before I was charged. If you’re having the same problem or can’t find the cancellation button on Feedspot, the steps below may help you cancel the subscription through PayPal.
Here’s how to cancel the automatic payment:
- Log in to your PayPal account.
- Click the Gear/Cog icon in the top-right corner, then open the Payments tab. Under Automatic Payments, click Manage Automatic Payments. A new window will open where you can view all your active and inactive subscriptions.
- Find and click Feedspot[dot]com. On the right side, click the Cancel button.
- Another confirmation window will appear. Click Cancel Automatic Payments.
- Once canceled, PayPal will display a confirmation message saying your automatic payments to Feedspot[dot]com have been successfully canceled. Click Done. The subscription status should now appear as Inactive. If you do not immediately see it, enable the option to show inactive subscriptions.
- You should also receive a confirmation email from PayPal with a subject similar to "Your recurring payment has been canceled".
Here’s a sample of the confirmation email:
Hello "Your Name",
You successfully canceled the following recurring payment. PayPal will no longer bill you. If you did not request this cancellation, contact PayPal Customer Support toll-free at 1-888-221-1161.
Note: Cancelling this payment with PayPal may not relieve you of the obligation to complete your contract with your merchant. You should notify your merchant directly about cancelling this payment.
